Satin Calf Suede care guide
Satin Calf Suede is soft, light and surprisingly durable. Its fine, velvety nap is what gives it its depth of colour, and with a little care it will keep that look for many years. As a natural material, suede develops a gentle patina with wear, which is part of its character.
1. BRUSHING
After wearing, brush the garment lightly with a soft suede brush, always in the direction of the nap. This lifts the fibres, removes dust and restores the even, satin-like surface. Avoid hard wire brushes, which can damage the delicate nap.
2. RAIN & WATER
Satin Calf Suede is best kept out of heavy rain. If it gets wet, gently blot off excess water with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub. Hang it on a wide, shaped hanger and let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators, hair dryers and direct sunlight. Once it is completely dry, brush the nap back into place.
A suede protector spray can help repel water and stains. Always test it on a hidden area first, and apply it to a clean, dry garment.
3. STAINS
Treat marks as soon as possible. Light marks can often be lifted with a suede eraser, followed by gentle brushing. For oil, grease, wine or other stubborn stains, do not try to wash or rub them out yourself; take the garment to a specialist leather cleaner.
Avoid spraying perfume or deodorant directly onto the suede.
4. CLEANING
Never machine wash, hand wash or tumble dry suede. When the garment needs a full clean, entrust it to a professional cleaner who specialises in suede and leather. Regular dry cleaning is not suitable.
5. STORAGE
Store your suede on a wide, shaped hanger that supports the shoulders, in a breathable cotton garment bag. Never store suede in plastic, as it needs to breathe. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade the colour, and give it space in the wardrobe so the nap is not crushed.
